Frequently Asked Questions

How many units of insulin does the cartridge hold?

300 units.

Can any 300 unit cartridge be used?
No, a Smiths Medical cartridge must be used.

What kind of battery is used?
One AAA alkaline battery

What is the lowest basal increment?
.05 units

What is the maximum basal rate?

35 units/hour.

Is the pump waterproof?
Every Deltec Cozmo® Insulin Pump is guaranteed to be waterproof when it leaves our manufacturing facility.

Does the pump require a special infusion set?

No, any standard luer lock infusion set can be used.

Does it have multiple bolus types?
Yes, standard, combination, and extended boluses.

What is the time period for delivering a bolus?
For some people, a large bolus delivered very quickly can cause a burning sensation. The Bolus Duration feature may be used to avoid this. You can program the pump so that all boluses (meal, correction, and the immediate portion of a Combination bolus) are delivered over 1 to 5 minutes. The default setting is 1 minute.

How often is basal insulin delivered?
Every three minutes.

How many basal patterns can be stored?
Four basal patterns that can be custom-labeled, with up to 48 rates in each.

Does the time on the Deltec Cozmo® insulin pump automatically change for daylight savings time?

Your Deltec Cozmo® insulin pump will not automatically update the time when daylight savings time begins in the spring or ends in the fall.  Refer to the User’s Manual on resetting the date and time.

How is the backlight activated?
  • The backlight can only be turned on from the screensaver screen.

  • Pressing the down arrow key from the screensaver screen turns on the backlight.

  • The backlight will remain on while keys are being pressed to program the pump. The backlight will automatically turn off when the screen saver reactivates.  It is normal for the backlight to blink when the motor is running.
What does “IOB” stand for?
“IOB” stands for Insulin On Board
  • It is the amount of insulin that remains active in the body since the last delivered bolus

  • You can personalize the duration of insulin action in your pump. The default is 3 hours. The range is 2-8 hours which can be programmed in 15 minute increments.
How do I set up or change the duration of insulin action?
  • From the home screen press Menu (using the front right key)

  • Scroll down using the down arrow key to Pump Settings, press Select

  • From your Pump Settings Menu scroll down to Personalize, press Select

  • From your Personalize Menu scroll down to Delivery, press Select

  • Your Delivery Setup Menu will be displayed.  Scroll down to Correction Bolus, press Select

  • From your Correction Bolus display screen continue to select Next until your Duration of Insulin Action screen appears

  • In this screen using the up and down arrow keys the duration can be changed from 2 – 8 hrs in 15 minute increments

  • The default setting for this is 3 hours
My Touch Bolus Button has fallen off.  Is the pump still waterproof?
  • Yes, the Deltec Cozmo® insulin pump remains waterproof

  • Do not use the touch bolus delivery until a replacement kit is sent to you
